Marco Geurts has trayed a unique expedition. Completely on his own will and power he has trayed cycle from The Netherlands to the most southern point of Argentina (Tierra del Fuego). The plan was to go through Siberia and Alaska in the winter. The artic character of the expedition would be underlined by the crossing of the Bering Strait.

On the 28th of February 2005 I left Hoek van Holland, where I baptised my bike in the sea. My journey finally began, after the too early public departure. Because of much bad luck with the material everything took much more time than expected. A few days later, the 9th of March, I left from my hometown Bilthoven. The distance I covered until now is globaly The Netherlands (at Haaksbergen over the boarder), the middle of Germany (Berlin), the middle of Poland (Warsaw), the east of Lithuania (Vilnius) and Latvia. From there the Russian Federation (Moscow) , (Nizhny Novgorod), (Kazan).

On the 28th of June I passed the boarder of Asia and arrived in Chelabinsk. After that I went through a lot of mud-paths around Kazakhstan to Omsk. Then to Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Bratsk and Ulst-Kut and rode from there along the BAM railway along the Baikal-lake to Tynda and further to Yakutsk. Not far away from that I got trouble with my bike and left a great deal of my luggage behind. After I got in Magadan, with much delay of my winter-equipment, the winter began. The travelling back to my bike did not went as I thought it would. Because of big iceflakes I had to go back to Holland without the (summer) luggage. By a stupid mistake I lost my passport in Holland.

On account of all this circumstances, it is not possible to fulfil the whole winter route in the winter season 2005/2006. That is why I went back to Siberia in January 2006 the plan was to ride from Yakutsk to the place of Omsukcan, northeast from Magadan. But again I had problems with my bicycle and had again to go back to Holland.

In August/September 2006 I went again to Siberia to continue my way. But after the theft of 3 of my bags and again a broken bike I decided in December 2006 to stop the expedion.

After 1,5 week sitting on the sofa compleet down, I decided that I had to go cycling again, to get fun again. That for I flew to Central America to ride from Panama to Mexico.

The journey was made totally on my own strength (sometimes with a little help from gravitation and/or windpower). That means that I did not hitch-hike or take a ferry to go in the direction of the final target.

This journey was only possible with help from my sponsors (visit also their site) and with the following people who helped me disinterested.

Thank you all very much

My mother, Marian Bekker, who has done everything for me (and still does);
